Children like reading stories. One way to engage children in leaning mathematics is to integrate children’s literature into their mathematics lessons. This course examines how children’s literature can be used as a vehicle for designing activities to help children learn mathematics and develop their process skills in mathematics. |

The objective of this course is to help lower primary mathematics teachers develop an understanding of why, when and how to use children’s literature resources in their mathematics lessons.

The following topics will be discussed:
• The role of children’s literature in the learning of lower primary mathematics • Identification and evaluation of children’s literature appropriate for the teaching and learning of lower primary mathematics in Singapore • Integration of children’s literature into the mathematics lessons |
