Course synopsis |
This course will equip students with an advanced level understanding of biomechanics. Topics covered include: kinematics, kinetics, biomechanical instrumentation, data acquisition, data processing and interpretation, and research approaches in biomechanics.
Students will perform laboratory work using state-of-the-art equipment, alongside lectures and tutorials. Students will also get an opportunity on a practical problem as part of the research experience. A mix of face-to-face interactions, online learning and group work is implemented in this module. It is intended that students be guided to holistically integrate the knowledge presented throughout the module. |

Objective |
This course aims to foster students' competence in tackling problems to biomechanics, based on sound theoretical understanding, and contemporary insights and methodologies. The specific objectives an follows:
• Be able to interpret and evaluate issues related to topics in biomechanics of sport and exercise at an advanced level. • Be able to demonstrate competency in carrying out practical investigations to tackle research or practical issues concerning biomechanics. • Be able to integrate the various topics holistically to understand how and why the human body moves in the way it does. |
Outline |
Sport and Exercise Biomechanics is an area of science concerned with the mechanics of human movement It explains how and why the human body moves in the way that it does. When applied in sport and exercise settings, the interaction between the performer and his or her equipment and environment are also considered.
Given that physical educators, sport coaches and healthcare professionals relies on updated theoretical and scientific approach to acquire knowledge in this field for their research and practice, students in the MSc {ESS) programme will benefit from this course as both theoretical foundations and latest scientific advances in the field will be covered.
