Course synopsis |
As a conduit of narrative that encapsulates the five areas of study outlined by the Literature syllabus, film criticism and appreciation can play a bridging role to literary concepts. An understanding of film will also enhance the Viewing and Representing possibilities in both English Language and Mother Tongue Language classrooms. The session aims to introduce participants to the four elements of film, namely mise-en-scene (setting, lighting, props/make-up, and acting), cinematography, editing and sound, and the production of film genre. This is a Beginners’ Level course that covers the fundamental components of film and is useful to teachers who would like to appreciate film, teach film and use film in the classroom. |
