Objective

Synopsis:

This course is designed for a broad audience who is interested in the foundations and applications of learning analytics across educational areas (e.g., primary to tertiary students, adult-learning). Activities will include discussions, designs, and hands-on, all of which help participants build up a foundation in understanding the educational use of learning analytics for teaching and learning. Participants will also engage and apply some of the methods and techniques, guided with learnings from case studies. There is no required knowledge for this course, but basic fluency in working with computers and data analysis will aid a faster grasp and understanding of the field.

Objective:

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Gain a basic understanding of the field of Learning Analytics and applications in various educational contexts.

  2. Confidently initiate and continue conversations about the foundations of the field and explore several popular frameworks, methods, and techniques for educational outcomes.

  3. Apply some of the methods and techniques to work with emergent competencies for the knowledge society.

Before course starts – 2 hour:


  • Flipped Learning (Self-directed)


 Session 1 – 2.5 hours online:


  • Learning Analytics as a field.

  • What does Learning Analytics look and feel like in practice?


 Between 1st and 2nd session – 1 hours:


  • Asynchronous online session


Session 2: – 2.5 hours online:


  • Professional sharing and insights.

  • Working with new competencies in Learning Analytics.
