Course synopsis |
This course extends the existing and future Subject Head/ Social Studies and Social Studies Co-ordinators’ knowledge and skills to plan and implement a powerful and purposeful Social Studies curriculum in their respective schools. Participants will be given a chance to continue planning a concept-based curriculum for primary Social Studies and sample inquiry units to teach Social Studies in a way to address the needs of diverse groups of students. Opportunities will also be provided for participants to critically examine their assessment plans and to develop assessment tasks that assess and support student learning in Social Studies classrooms. Time will also be set aside for dialogue with other Social Studies practitioners to further strengthen existing support networks and to learn about the best practices in terms of teaching and learning of Social Studies in other schools. |

Objective |
This course supports the development of curriculum leadership in Social Studies in primary schools. It is targeted at Subject Head/ Social Studies and Social Studies Co-ordinators who have attended the first part of the course – Curriculum Leadership in Primary Social Studies – Part 1 and who are responsible for developing effective Social Studies programmes focused on nurturing students who are informed, concerned and participative citizens of the future.
