Course synopsis |
The course is designed to build teachers’ capacity in the areas of questioning and feedback, two important assessment for learning (AfL) strategies. Using research-informed best practices, participants explore and apply questioning and feedback within authentic contexts. While focusing on enhancing teachers’ use of AfL strategies, the course examines how participants may plan the conditions for ideal questioning and feedback practices. Through discussion, hands-on and reflective activities, participants will enhance their knowledge and skills in using Q&F strategies to support and evaluate teaching and learning. AfL practices and understandings will be set within the context of MOE Assessment Philosophy and assessment competencies. |

Outline |
The course is designed to build teachers’ capacity in the areas of questioning and feedback, two important assessment for learning (AfL) strategies. Using research-informed best practices, participants explore and apply questioning and feedback within authentic contexts. Focusing on enhancing teachers’ use of AfL strategies, the course examines how participants may plan the conditions for ideal questioning and feedback practices. Through discussion, hands-on and reflective activities, participants will enhance their knowledge and skills to use Q&F strategies to support and evaluate teaching and learning. AfL practices and understandings will be set within the context of MOE Assessment Philosophy and assessment competencies. Participants are requested to bring a lesson plan incorporating either the use of questioning or feedback which they wish to work on. The final session will focus on participants’ implementation of the enhanced lesson plan and enhanced questioning and feedback.
Session (1): 2h asynchronous e-learning via NIE Blackboard (BB) before Day 1. Session (2): 3h synchronous session via BB on Day 1 (2.30-5.30pm). Session (3): 1h asynchronous e-learning via BB before Day 2. Session (4): 2h synchronous session via BB on Day 2 (2.30-4.30pm). |
