This course provides the MEd (Educational Assessment) graduate student with the skills and understanding of elementary statistics and their applications in the social and behavioural sciences. Basic statistical literacy is required in a critical reading of research literature and in conducting sound research. It is essential knowledge for a MEd(Educational Assessment) graduate working in the field of educational measurement and evaluation

Objective

On completion of the course, students will:

  • Understand how language is used in multilingual communities and be able to explain varying patterns of language use.

  • Be aware of the social causes of language variation and change among different social and ethnic groups and of the ways in which language reflects the values of society.

  • Understand political, social, and psychological aspects of multilingualism.

  • Understand the impact of the issues above on classrooms in Singapore.

  • A good Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university

  • A teaching qualification such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Education and at least ONE year of teaching experience or
